Young Beaver Battles Injuries And Nutrition Issues

On October 1, 2024, our wildlife rehabilitation center admitted a juvenile beaver, a first for our facility!

This young female is about 3 to 4 months old and was found alone along a riverbank at a park in Greenville, Pennsylvania. She came in with an existing injury to her left eye, head trauma, and mild emaciation and dehydration.

Due to her fragile state at intake, she was placed on a regimen of being hand-fed EmerAid IC Herbivore, along with subcutaneous fluids and other medications for head trauma. She also had a mild case of GI stasis and bloat, which the EmerAid helped to correct.

Our wildlife veterinarian was able to evaluate the viability of her eye. Her current treatment plan is to undergo surgery to remove it once she is fully recovered from her other injuries. Her prognosis is still fairly guarded, but she has made great improvements and hopefully is on her way to a full recovery.
