Myrtle The Box Turtle Overcomes Car Injuries

Myrtle came to Tamarack Wildlife Center on July 1, 2018, with internal injuries and a fractured carapace due to a roadway accident. Because of the severity of her injuries, she initially retreated into her shell and would not eat.

Fortunately, we were able to feed EmerAid Intensive Care Herbivore with a syringe to maintain her nutrition. With time and treatment, she began self-feeding several weeks later, and literally came out of her shell with personality.

Box Turtles are very territorial and need to be released to the exact location where they were found. Because Myrtle was dropped off anonymously, we are unable to release her but Myrtle has regained full health and is now a beloved educational ambassador for our center.
