Hermit Thrush Returns To The Wild After A Severe Window Strike

The Bird Rescue Center recently admitted an adult hermit thrush that hit a window. The bird sustained massive impact trauma to neck and shoulders that resulted in labored breathing, a fractured left furcula, and deep hemorrhage over its upper spine and neck.

On admit, the bird was in critical condition and had to be stabilized with oxygen therapy, a wing wrap, pain medication, and a vitamin K injection to quell the bleeding. After 24 hours, the patient was stable but hungry.

Due to the severity of its injuries and the stress of being in a rehabilitation setting, the little thrush was unable to feed itself and needed our help.

That’s where EmerAid IC Carnivore came in. In order to keep this bird fueled for its long road to recovery, we began tube-feeding a fruit + EmerAid IC Carnivore “smoothie” every 2 hours for 8 hours a day. After a couple days on this diet, the bird became strong enough to start self-feeding and is on the road to recovery!
