Foot Injuries Take Down A Red-Tailed Hawk

This red-tailed hawk came in with foot injuries and was unable to stand. We started him on fluids and EmerAid Intensive Care Carnivore.

Now we are working into natural foods. At the moment he is up to skinned prey items in water and is very enthusiastic about it. He is the first hawk we’ve had that would take pieces from a dish.

He is extremely enthusiastic about food, so volunteers must wear a protective leather glove and put his food in fast to be safe. As soon as the food is there, his sharp talons are on it! He likes to hold the dish to make sure it doesn’t escape.
