Emu Chick Overcomes Ataxia, Lethargy, And Anorexia

close up of baby emu's headThe following story about an emu was submitted by Sandy’s Haven, Inc. serving areas from North Ogden, Utah, to Pocatello, Idaho.

This 6-month-old emu chick presented with ataxia, lethargy, and anorexia. She tested negative for West Nile virus and lead.

We administered equal parts of EmerAid IC Omnivore, IC Carnivore, and IC Herbivore by mouth using a 60 cc catheter-tipped syringe. We gave her a cup of this mixture four times a day.

By day two she was more responsive and aware. By day three she was up, walking, and investigating her environment. By day 5 she was eating emu rations on her own. We continued our mixture once a day for the next week.
