Eastern Fox Squirrel Overcomes Head Trauma

This adult Eastern fox squirrel was admitted from Blacksburg, Virginia, after being found in the road (likely hit by a car).

Upon admission, this squirrel was lethargic, had a broken lower incisor, a busted nose, significant head trauma and was sneezing. She weighed 670 grams (about 1.5 pounds) on admission, which dropped during the first few days at the Center before rebounding.

Despite her teeth not being badly injured, she was unwilling to eat, and we started her on EmerAid IC Herbivore. We placed it in a dish in her cage and she lapped it up. She also started eating solid, soft foods like fresh corn and other vegetables.

She is still on a regimen of medicine to assist her with head trauma and her injured teeth but is expected to recover and be released into the wild. She is improving week by week.
