Black-Backed Gull Suffers Fractured Wing

great black-backed bull with injured wingThe following story was shared with us by The Raptor Trust in New Jersey.

This great black-backed gull arrived at the Raptor Trust very weak and emaciated, with a fractured wing. We rehydrated it with lactated ringer’s solution.

The next day we began tube-feeding it EmerAid Intensive Care Carnivore, because its system could not yet handle solid food. After a few days of tubing EmerAid, we were ready to move to small meals of solid food. This bird gobbled down everything we put in front of it!

It quickly put on the weight it needed and was moved to an outdoor aviary where it had more room to stretch and would enjoy the sunshine.

The bird is still here for rehabilitation, but we are hoping the wing will recover and it will be able to be released into the wild.
