American Wigeon Wounded By Attack

American wigeon in enclosureThe following story about an American wigeon was submitted by Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Washington.

At the end of October we received an American wigeon into our center. This wigeon was thin and had some wounds from being attacked by another animal.

We utilized the EmerAid IC Herbivore to start treatment. The wigeon began to gain weight, but due to the stress of rehabilitation as well as anorexia brought on by meds we continued to tube the duck three times a day to continue weight gain.

Shortly after the wigeon was off meds he started to eat on his own. We continued a gradual decrease in tubing as he ate more and more.

Without having access to EmerAid, Wolf Hollow WRC would have had to concoct a tubeable diet using many supplements.
