A Domestic Rabbit Needs Extra Care To Recover His Health

A while back, we received a call regarding multiple domestic rabbits that were found in terrible condition in a local park. The caller was able to capture the animals and transport them to CWR. Our goal was to get them back healthy and fixed so that they could ultimately be adopted.

Of all of the rabbits, there was one young male that was severely emaciated, dehydrated, and infested with external parasites. This rabbit required more intensive care than his healthier counterparts that bounced back quickly.

Nervous about his ability to process solid foods on intake as well as his ability to gain weight from his state of emaciation, we implemented a strategic refeeding plan using EmerAid IC Herbivore. This plan would not only rehydrate him, but allow him to put on sustainable weight at a healthy pace.

He loved his feedings and drank the formula straight from a shallow dish. This was helpful to us, as it wasn’t necessary to stress the animal by force-feeding him.

This rabbit went on to achieve a healthy weight and muscle condition. We eventually switched him over to whole, solid foods. After his neuter at a local vet, he was finally ready to go to his adoptive family, who had been following his story and anxiously awaited his arrival.
