My dog Justice mysteriously practically went into liver failure about two weeks ago and had to spend five days in the veterinary emergency care hospital. When he came out, it was very difficult to get him to eat and he didn’t want to take his pills. I had a bag of EmerAid on hand as Justice has had issues with eating in the past (they believe it could be chronic pancreatitis). I just put the powder and water in a mixing bowl and made it into a paste, chilled it and then rolled it into little balls. My 18 month old Chihuahua has been on a feeding tube due to an esophageal puncture for a few weeks now. We were told to get emeraid food to replace the liquid food we were given at the vet and it has helped her regain some weight. Her sisters also think it is quite delicious as they get to have a little snack of whatever is leftover after we feed the injured baby
This is a great product to boost good calories without adding volume. One of my cats in the past had a slew of chronic issues one of which was nasal adenocarcinoma. We treated it and she didn’t die of it, but she did need additional calorie support for the 3 years afterwards (she also had IBD). She ate this mixed in her food without any IBD flareups. She wouldn’t eat it as a treat though.
Fast forward and now one of my dogs is chronically ill and losing weight without a clear explanation. I’ve started adding this to his food and his weight has stabilized. He also won’t eat it at a treat but adding to his wet food is just as good.
I should mention that both version were the “Sustain” versions as I haven’t needed to syringe feed either of these two. Definitely would recommend these products if you have an animal that needs more good quality calories without additional volume.
Emeraid has saved my dog’s life. This product is nothing short of a miracle. She had lost the ability to swallow and had dropped from a svelte 15.8# to a shocking 12#, any lower and we were in danger of losing her. We had a feed tube placed, but we struggled to find a food high enough in calories that she would be able to accommodate in her stomach with it’s reduced capacity. Then my Dr suggested Emeraid. Not only did it stop the weight loss, it also stopped the diarrhea too! She went from 12# to 13.2# in one week!! Honestly, I cried. Now she is up to 15.18 and looking and feeling solid. We can start to decrease the amount of Emeraid per feeding since her ability to swallow seems to be coming back slowly, but the peace of mind I have, knowing I have this as a safety net, is reassuring to say the least.
