The following story about a Eurasian collared dove was submitted by Wildlife Rescue Association of British Columbia.

In late March of 2021, the Wildlife Rescue Association of BC received a young Eurasian collared dove that was found being attacked by crows. With no parents in sight, it was presumed orphaned.

Upon examination, it was revealed that this lucky bird sustained no major injuries from the encounter with the crows. However, blood values showed low total protein, indicating malnutrition. The young dove was started on a tube feeding regimen of EmerAid IC Omnivore once a day, in addition to a baby bird food once a day to support healthy growth.

EmerAid IC Omnivore is our go-to formula when we receive young doves and pigeons that are needing extra nutritional support to get them back to optimal health. EmerAid is just what this young dove needed to grow healthy and strong.

After a couple of days tube-feeding, this dove’s blood values improved significantly and it was able to eat on its own. The dove was moved to an outdoor enclosure where the bird worked on improving its flight skills, water-proofing, and evasion.

Three weeks after this bird was admitted, a release assessment revealed that the dove was ready to be returned to nature. On April 18, this Eurasian collared dove was released back to the home in Maple Ridge where it was found.
