An adult, female Virginia opossum came into our facility on October 15, 2024, after being trapped near a feral cat feeding station in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Etna.

Upon admission, she was found to be severely emaciated and dehydrated. She also had an extensive wound near her right flank. She was immediately placed on a number of medications, including subcutaneous fluids, wound care, and antibiotics.

To assist with her emaciation, she was placed on a critical diet of easily digestible foods with a helping of EmerAid IC Omnivore mixed in.

After four days of intensive treatment, her mentation significantly improved, and her wound began healing appropriately. We are currently awaiting the completion of her other courses of medications before she is released back to her home territory.
