Virginia Opossum Nearly Starves After Suffering Broken Bones

The following story was shared with us by Amy Stevens, a home-based wildlife rehabber in southern Ohio.

Vrginia opossum being syringe-fedIn our rehab experience, the use of EmerAid has been the deciding factor on whether an animal survives or not. A young, male Virginia opossum, about 7 months old, came to us severely emaciated with both broken ribs and femur.

The young male came into us after being found barely able to survive on the finder’s property. We guessed he was hit by a car, and his broken bones prevented him from traveling far to forage for food.

Upon intake, we immediately provided warmed SubQ fluids and rehydrated him. On the second day, we started with syringe-feeding both EmerAid Intensive Care Carnivore and EmerAid Intensive Care Omnivore.

He was getting the nutrition he needed so desperately by using this product. He was able to digest and process this solution much quicker than normal food. Because he was too weak to process solid food, we would not have been able to provide the necessary nutrition quick enough without EmerAid.

As seen in the attached picture, we are syringe-feeding him the EmerAid solution.
