This summer, we received two fledgling Eastern screech owls on June 12 and June 17. One of them had an eye injury that required an evisceration, while the other was severely emaciated and dehydrated with severe head trauma.

Along with the myriad of other medical treatments that were prescribed, the second owl received EmerAid IC Carnivore via gavage feeding until he was healthy enough to be offered solid food. He was also placed on a regimen of subcutaneous fluids to combat his dehydration.

Once they were finished with their respective courses of medications, the owls were transferred to Tamarack Wildlife Center in Erie, Pennsylvania. It specializes in raptors. There they finished their pre-release conditioning.

As a result of the intensive care that both of these owls received, they were able to be released together on September 14, once they were old enough to be on their own.
