The Story Of Gerber The Skunk

skunk walking in grassThe following story about a skunk was shared with us by Shaw Wildlife Sanctuary in New Jersey.

In February of 2019, a young male skunk was hit by a car and left on the side of the road for four days before a rescuer brought him to Shaw Wildlife. He was treated for severe dehydration and head trauma.

We were able to syringe-feed him EmerAid IC Carnivore, which he willingly ate.

After months of rehabilitation, it was determined this little guy had good quality of life but would not be able to survive on his own in the wild. It was then that he became Shaw Wildlife’s wildlife ambassador for our educational programs.

Known to most as “Gerber the skunk,” he became an internet sensation when the Dodo posted a video of his story online.

Any time Gerber had a surgical procedure or a dental cleaning, the EmerAid IC Carnivore was our go-to to get him eating again; that and Gerber baby food, which he also loved (hence his name).

The EmerAid not only got him eating, but also provided him with the nutrients he needed to heal — something the Gerber baby food wasn’t able to provide for a skunk.
