Sandhill Crane Chick Stops Breathing

This recently hatched sandhill crane chick was found rolling in the water with both parent birds pacing nearby.

He was brought to Wildlife In Need Center. Several minutes after he was admitted he stopped breathing and needed to be resuscitated. He was stabilized after 48 hours but needed aggressive supportive care.

The following day he was standing but needed nutritional support for over a week. The photo shows gavage-feeding a mixture of half EmerAid IC Omnivore with half EmerAid IC Carnivore.
