Royal Tern Found At Marina Gets Help

royal tern in cage standing on logThe following story about a royal tern was submitted by the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center in Florida.

This adult royal tern was found at a marina not walking on a dock. She was rescued and brought to our center, the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center. An initial exam found that she was cold, emaciated and there was blood on her head between the eyes.

We warmed her up, gave subcutaneous fluids and then started her on EmerAid IC Piscivore. Her intake weight was 304 grams (about 10.7 ounces).

After a day of EmerAid, we started her on a fish smoothie and she started eating on her own.

She stayed in care gaining weight for two weeks before she was ready to be released with a few other terns.
