Rock Dove Nearly Overcome By Parasites

This rock dove, or pigeon, came in very weak and emaciated, unable to fly. After examining the bird, it was determined that there were no injuries.

A fecal was run to see if internal parasites were causing the problem. The fecal came back positive with more than one type of parasite taking up residency in the bird’s intestinal tract.

The bird was started on medications to get rid of the parasites, and we began tubing EmerAid IC Omnivore. This helps provide essential nutrients that the emaciated bird needs to regain its strength.

After a few days, he was weaned off of the EmerAid and switched to a seed diet appropriate for rock doves.
