Osprey Builds Back Strength

osprey outside standing on one leg on patio tilesThe following story about an osprey was submitted by Save Our Seabirds, Inc. in Florida.

This beautiful osprey was found on a residential patio in Siesta Key, Florida, on April 5th. It had been holding one leg up and sitting in the same place for hours.

The bird was brought to Save Our Seabirds, where it was determined that the bird was very tired, a little thin, and a couple of its primary feathers were broken.

The osprey was given fluids and EmerAid IC Piscivore nutritional support for two days, at which time it was gradually transitioned to fish.

After several days of rest, the patient was transferred outside to slowly build up strength while waiting for the broken feathers to molt out. Luckily, this osprey was about ready to molt anyway!
