Orphaned Opossums Get New Home Until Ready For The Wild

The two tiny opossums were the only survivors when the mom was hit and killed by a car. Our volunteer, who loves the British musician Sting, named the male and female opossums for Sting and his wife, Trudy.

Initially, Sting and Trudy did well growing. They grew to the stage where they were lapping formula and starting to wean. Then, Sting continued growing, but Trudy stopped thriving. It wasn’t long before Sting was five times bigger than his sister and pouch-mate, Trudy. Losing ground rapidly, Trudy was definitely in trouble. We thought we were going to lose her.

Fortunately, wild animals love the smell and taste of EmerAid. It was easy for us to mix up some of the EmerAid Omnivore powder with warm water and entice Trudy to lap it up. A couple of weeks later, Trudy was thriving again. Even though she will never be as big as Sting, she will be released with her brother to the wild.
