Opossum Must Overcome Injuries And Poor Body Condition

During the spring I received a call on a “hit by a car opossum.” After a much-needed trip to the veterinarian to get a deeper evaluation done, I soon found out the extent of his injuries.

Not only was he suffering from head trauma causing him to be much weaker on his right side, he also had a badly broken jaw, he was also emaciated and full of parasites.

This full-grown, male opossum had a big body but little weight. He weighed a little under 2 pounds. He received surgery to repair/wire his jaw so it could heal properly. I also had my vet insert an esophageal tube so I could feed him with formulas.

I knew then what I needed for his recovery — EmerAid IC Carnivore. I had to order more because I had run out from last season. The company was very quick at getting my order prepped and ready for shipment. I received it as a rush order the next day, and immediately started this opossum on the formula for critical care and nutrition.

After six weeks of caring for this opossum, feeding him through a tube three times a day, it was finally time to remove his sutures and retrain him to eat on his own. I took him back to the vet for a weight check and suture removal. To our surprise he now weighed 3.45 pounds! He was back up to a very healthy weight for his size.

I give all my credit for this opossum’s nutritional care to EmerAid products. They have once again saved another beautiful animal.
