Northern Mockingbird Needs Help To Gape

Northern mockingbird showing excellent gape, open mouth, techniqueThe following story about a Northern mockingbird was shared with us by Napa Wildlife Rescue of California.

This Northern mockingbird is happy now, but when she came in there were many things to make her unhappy. She was cold, hungry, in pain from being caught by a cat, itchy from mites, and scared.

We addressed her issues, but she would not gape — even after all of our usual tricks. So we tubed her a round of EmerAid IC Carnivore, because birds who don’t eat die.

The EmerAid did the trick. Next time I checked on her she decided to gape and was able to go back to our usual insect diet. Now she is on her way to growing up and going home.
