Northern Flicker Hit By Car

Northern flicker bird perched in cageThe following story about a Northern flicker was shared with us by Bird Center of Michigan in Michigan.

This Northern flicker was brought to the Bird Center of Michigan after being recently struck by a car. He was in critical condition on intake due to the severity of the collision.

On admission, he was aspirating on blood from his internal injuries. Our incredible staff acted quickly and was able to get him stabilized.

A week later, with some initial days of subcutaneous fluids and assisted-feeding with a food mix of EmerAid IC Carnivore and EmerAid IC Omnivore, he greatly improved. He began to self-feed and was able to fly again.

After a few more weeks in rehab, we were able to release him.
