Netting Injures Great Blue Heron

great blue heron flies over water after releaseThe following story about a great blue heron was shared with us by Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center of Roanoke.

This adult great blue heron was admitted from Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia after being tangled in netting.

The great blue heron had injuries to his wing but also eye injuries that took a long time to heal. He was 2.4 kilograms (about 5.3 pounds) on admission.

During his initial days we administered EmerAid IC Piscivore until he started eating whole fish on his own.

After a lengthy rehab to work on his eye, this heron was released successfully at the location where he was found.
