One of our dedicated volunteers rescued this nestling yellow-crowned night heron after it fell from its nest in Columbus, Ohio.

During the initial exam we discovered that the patient had suffered a musculoskeletal system injury resulting in a fractured humerus. The body condition was a 2 out of 5, and the heron only weighed 590 grams (about 1.3 pounds).

This heron needed assistance with feedings and care prior to surgery. With the aid of EmerAid IC Omnivore feedings 3 to 5 times daily, this patient successfully gained weight and strength in order to be able to undergo surgery.

The surgery placed a pin in the wing. The heron was able to survive the surgery due to the nutrients received in supplement feedings from EmerAid IC Omnivore.

We used EmerAid Omnivore to help supplement this patient during care that included physical therapy and medications. When we were concerned regarding vitamin and nutrient content of some of our donated fish, we also supplemented care with EmerAid IC Omnivore to guarantee the nutrients this bird received was able to support it during continued care.
