Lesser Bushbaby With Head Trauma

lesser bushbaby being held and handfed by syringeThe following story about a lesser bushbaby was submitted by Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital in South Africa.

This lesser bushbaby (Galago moholi) was transferred to us from Bird and Exotic Animal Hospital (Onderstepoort). This adult female had a nose bleed, and was lethargic and dehydrated. She was immediately placed on a drip, and soon it became evident that her sight was affected, too. We suspected that all her symptoms were due to head trauma.

Following a consult with veterinary eye specialist Dr. Lo-An Odayar, she was diagnosed with central blindness. Her eyes were both normal, but because of the bump to her head, her brain wasn’t “seeing.” Anti-inflammatories and rest were prescribed. We had to wait and see whether this trauma would resolve.

Thankfully she made a full recovery and her sight returned. Thanks to EmerAid IC Omnivore for aiding in the nutritional component of her stay with us!
