Keeping Vervet Monkeys Healthy And Happy

A few weeks ago, we received 19 vervet monkeys that were confiscated from a private property.

After each one was examined and admitted into our hospital, we created “troops” within which every monkey was happy. This is not always an easy task; not all monkeys get along.

One of the older females took on the role as surrogate mum to all the youngsters and is highly protective over them.

Rehabilitation includes both physical wellness, as well as mental. Cage enrichment is a massive part of this. While in our care, we have added different elements for the monkeys to enjoy.

Sometimes this has included swings, different browse to forage through, new food items, or different ways to present their food to keep their minds stimulated. This includes using EmerAid IC Omnivore.

All the monkeys will be rehabilitated and later released, once a suitable area has been secured.
