The following story about a bald eagle was shared with us by Wildcare Eastern Sierra in California.

This juvenile bald eagle was found in the Owens Lake dry lakebed. A member of CDFW was able to catch him and transport him to Wildcare Eastern Sierra, after several people birdwatching reported that he could not fly.

Upon arriving at the center, it was determined that the juvenile bald eagle was emaciated, at only 5 pounds. Wildcare started him on emaciation protocol immediately: thoroughly hydrating him with subcutaneous fluids before starting a routine of fluids and gavage feeding EmerAid IC Carnivore.

Wildcare Eastern Sierra isn’t equipped to handle large birds like eagles, so he spent only a couple of days in our care, before being transferred to Ojai Raptor Center.
