The following story about a house sparrow was shared with us by The Stanislaus Wildlife Care Center in California.

On May 31, 2021, we received a hatchling sparrow weighing 14.9 grams (about 0.53 ounces). It was found on the ground in Salida, California, and had internal bleeding at intake.

We fed the hatchling house sparrow a mixture of half baby bird diet and half EmerAid Intensive Care Carnivore diet until feathers started growing in. When the sparrow’s feathers started growing in, we switched to a supplemented insect diet.

The sparrow was released in early August in Salida weighing 22.4 grams (about 0.8 ounces).
