Gutteral Toad Caught By Dog

wound on gutteral toad's shoulder gutteral toad looking at camera from container of water The following story about a gutteral toad was submitted by Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital in South Africa.

This guttural toad (Sclerophrys gutturalis) was caught by a dog. We admitted her with a large open wound on her left shoulder area. She is female, because she lacks the blackish nuptial pads on the outer fingers.

We gave her pain medication, and treated the superficial wound with F10 Products ointment.

Guttural toads don’t eat well in captivity. We, therefore, had to tube-feed her with EmerAid IC Carnivore during her stay with us.

She improved quite quickly, and her wound healed without further intervention.

She was released into a safe environment where she could make her full recovery without the stress of captivity.
