Groundhog’s Fractured Incisors Make Eating Difficult

This groundhog came to the facility from Buncombe County, North Carolina. He weighed 4.2 kilograms (about 9.2 pounds). He was struck by a car and had fractured incisors, which is a very painful condition, even with medications. Like others before him, he was very reluctant to eat solid foods.

We decided to offer him EmerAid Sustain Herbivore. It was a bit of an adjustment for him to slurp up his food from a bowl, but he quickly got it. He loved his Sustain and would clean the bowl, leaving no leftovers.

His incisors grew back quickly. Before we knew it he was happily eating his Sustain and solid foods that were offered.

He continued to improve and show us all the behaviors that are necessary to return to the wild. We contacted the finder, who was happy to assist us in getting him back to his home territory.
