Green Heron Falls From Nest

green heron standing on log in indoor enclosureThe following story about a green heron was shared with us by the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA Wildlife Care Center in California.

This young patient arrived on May 23, 2022, after falling from the nest too soon. Green herons make their nests in the forks of trees and sometimes in bushes. These nests can be found up to 30 feet in the air! Therefore, when this little one was found alone on the ground by itself, we knew it needed help.

Upon arrival, the fledgling seemed to be in good spirits, exhibiting normal behavior, but dehydrated and thin body condition.

We used EmerAid IC Piscivore to help put some weight on this patient and keep it hydrated. We transferred this patient up to International Bird Rescue to receive continued care, and to learn the skills needed to survive in the wild.
