Great Horned Owl Overcomes Poisoning And Eye Injury

great horned owl in cageThe following story about a great horned owl was shared with us by the World Bird Sanctuary in Missouri.

This great horned owl had a rough month after falling victim to rodenticide poisoning, as well as sustaining a traumatic injury to the eyes.

The owl was found on the ground too weak to fly and having seizures. She was extremely dehydrated and emaciated as her eye injuries and poisoning had kept her from hunting well.

EmerAid IC Carnivore was perfect for getting the great horned owl both rehydrated and given the calories she needed to start putting weight back on.

EmerAid made up her entire diet initially, and she was slowly transitioned to solid food over a period of two weeks.

By the time she was up to a healthy weight, the owl weighed 50% more than she did on intake. She was successfully released after 48 days in care.
