Great Horned Owl Nestling Falls From Nest

This nestling great horned owl came to us from Daytona Beach, Florida. The bird was found at the base of a tree under the nest.

On intake, the bird was thin (465 grams, or about a pound) and dehydrated. Otherwise, the bird was uninjured.

We started the bird on EmerAid IC Carnivore, 25 milliliters twice daily, while offering rodent organ meat on a dish. When the bird was at a healthy weight (856 grams, or nearly 2 pounds) we transferred the bird to another facility for continued care with a foster parent great horned owl.
