Common Snapping Turtle Hit By Vehicle

common snapping turtle being tube-fedThe following story about a common snapping turtle was shared with us by Wildlife In Need Center in Wisconsin.

This adult, female common snapping turtle was admitted after a vehicle collision when she was leaving the water to lay her eggs.

On intake, she had multiple shell fractures and several skull fractures. She was weak and in shock, weighing 5.1 kilograms (about 11.2 pounds) on intake.

After treatment, care, and nutritional support of EmerAid IC Carnivore, she was released eight weeks later. Her weight on release was 5.8 kilograms (about 12.8 pounds).
