Common Murre Survives Being Grounded

This common murre arrived in our care on February 16, 2022. Murres spend the majority of their lives at sea. Their feet are located farther back on their bodies, making them excellent swimmers and divers. However, due to the location of their legs, these birds do not do well on land.

When this patient was found beached on the shore of Ocean Beach in San Francisco, we knew it was in need of care.

Upon arrival, the patient was quiet, dehydrated, and weak, with a very thin body condition. We fed it for two days with EmerAid IC Piscivore, causing it to get the nutrition it needed to stabilize.

Once strong enough, the patient was transferred to International Bird Rescue for continued care.
