Common Murre Suffers Silently

A common murre came to the International Bird Rescue’s San Francisco Bay Wildlife Center from Monterey. Upon arrival, this murre was very quiet and suffered from anemia, emaciation, and dehydration. Additionally, a quarter of its body was contaminated with petroleum oil, including its abdomen and tail feathers.

It was critical that we began providing this murre nutritional support with EmerAid IC Piscivore tube feedings and IV fluids to help stabilize the bird.

After giving this adult murre a few days of EmerAid IC Piscivore and extra fluids, we were able to wash all the contaminants from its body while making sure the patient was stable.

After just 10 days at our center, a great deal of progress had been made for this patient. This common murre was able to gain a significant amount of weight along with recovering from anemia and dehydration.

We successfully released this beautiful common murre at Muir Beach in Marin County, north of San Francisco.
