Chicken Unable To See Food And Water Bowls

chicken with swelling on face standing on towel on tableThe following story about a chicken was submitted by Carolina Waterfowl Rescue in North Carolina.

A while back we had a chicken intake that presented with a severe sinus infection. The swelling in the area around the eyes and nares made it difficult for the hen to see her bowls of food and water that were given to her while in treatment.

We very quickly noticed that she was losing weight. To prevent further weight loss and help her sustain a healthy weight, we used EmerAid Omnivore and a tube-feeding schedule that not only provided all of her dietary needs, but prevented further weight loss during treatment.

After the swelling in her eyes and sinuses subsided, she was able to see food in front of her and eventually took a liking to the formula. She then took feedings directly from a bowl rather than a tube.

This chicken went on to make a full recovery while maintaining a healthy weight and good body condition. She is scheduled for adoption in the next few weeks.
