The following story about a barn owl was shared with us by Sandy’s Haven of Idaho.

A barn owl owlet was blown from his nest during a storm. With no way to re-nest, he was brought to Sandy’s Haven.

On arrival, the owlet was noted to be thin, with an intake weight of 297 grams (about 10.5 ounces). The owlet was standing and estimated to be about 4 weeks old.

Staff at Sandy’s Haven fed the barn owl with EmerAid IC Carnivore for five days. He was then transitioned to cut up mice.

He was then raised with other owlets of similar age and conditioned for release in the area where he was found. Release weight was 450 grams (about 15.9 ounces).
