Bald Eagle With Permanent Wing Damage Finds New Home

After a conservation warden found this juvenile eagle in a field dragging its right wing, it was brought to the Dane County Humane Society’s Wildlife Center to be evaluated.

Upon arrival, the eagle was severely emaciated and X-rays showed a humerus fracture. The fracture had begun to heal improperly and could not be repaired, making it impossible for the eagle to fly well enough to be released back into the wild. The decision was made to transfer this eagle to the Ochsner Zoo in Baraboo, Wisconsin, to join their adult eagle on display in educating the public.

Before the eagle could be transferred, the eagle’s body condition needed to be addressed. The eagle was gavaged with EmerAid Intensive Care Carnivore until he was able to eat solid food. The eagle was nursed back to health. He captured the attention of local news outlets as he was transferred to his forever home at the Ochsner Zoo.
