Ashy Storm-Petrel Rescued From Bathroom

This unique patient is a small seabird with a limited range that spans from Northern California to Baja California. This adult ashy atorm-petrel made its way to us on September 25, 2021, when he was found stuck in a public restroom at the Pacifica Pier. An unusual spot for this creature who thrives in the open ocean.

He appeared uninjured upon arrival and weighed 32 grams (about 1.1 ounces). Dehydrated but in relatively good health, this high-stress patient is reluctant to eat in care, so we used EmerAid IC Piscivore to provide balanced nutrition.

Once stable, this storm-petrel was transferred to International Bird Rescue for specialized care.
