American Woodcock Suffers Head Injury

American woodcock held in towel so only the head showsThe following story about an American woodcock was shared with us by Bird Center of Michigan in Michigan.

A struggling American woodcock was discovered unable to fly at the Detroit airport. This long-billed species is particularly vulnerable to collisions due to their limited forward vision.

He was found well beyond his migration season, so this woodcock was one of the last migrators to pass through Michigan.

He struggled to eat on his own because of a head injury. We tube-fed EmerAid IC Carnivore until he stabilized and started to self-feed.

By the time this beautiful bird recuperates from his injuries, he’ll be overwintered and enjoy a spring release.
