A Starving Raven Is Saved

The following story about a raven was shared with us by Wildcare Eastern Sierra in California.

A fledgling raven was found grounded on the navy base in Ridgecrest, Calilfornia. After arriving at Wildcare Eastern Sierra, it was examined and found to be emaciated at only 440 grams (about 15.5 ounces)!

We started him on emaciation protocol immediately: thoroughly hydrating him with subcutaneous fluids before starting a routine of fluids and EmerAid IC Carnivore. He was then slowly weaned back onto a solid diet.

He spent the next six weeks in our care, recovering from his emaciation and gaining enough strength to fly again. By the time he was ready for release, he had gained over 300 grams, now weighing 760 grams (about 1.7 pounds)! He was released safely back to the wild after several weeks in our care.
