A Starving Trumpeter Swan Is Saved

close up of injured beak of trumpeter swanThe following story about a trumpeter swan was shared with us by All Species Kinship (A.S.K.) of Michigan.

Juvenile trumpeter swan admitted with lower mandible fracture. The bird was found emaciated at someone’s door.

Upon admission A.S.K. provided fluid therapy, and then 12 hours later EmerAid IC Omnivore formula gavaged for 48 hours. This enabled the swan’s gastrointestinal system to slowly begin working again before transitioning to a waterfowl starter food.

Her recovery was a success, and she was transferred to another federally permitted facility.
