Cooper’s Hawk Gets Trapped In A Building

Cooper's Hawk on perchThe following story was shared with us by The Raptor Trust in New Jersey.

This Cooper’s hawk arrived at the Raptor Trust after being trapped in a building for a week. It was too weak and emaciated to have food for several days.

We began with lactated ringer’s solution to rehydrate the bird and then moved to EmerAid Intensive Care Carnivore. After a few days eating EmerAid the bird was able to have small meals of chopped quail meat.

It began to regain its strength and was moved into an outdoor flight cage with some other Cooper’s hawks. It will continue to exercise and gain its stamina for a few weeks outside before it is released.
