Painted Turtle Injured While Crossing Road

This turtle was first spotted in the middle of a busy road. When the person who found her tried to help the turtle finish crossing the road, they noticed she had been most likely hit by a car and was injured.

Upon arriving at the Dane County Humane Society’s Wildlife Center, the turtle was examined and found to have multiple fractures on its shell along with some abrasions. The turtle underwent surgery to repair the fractures.

Due to the severity of the fractures the turtle couldn’t return to water for several weeks. To ensure she was well-fed while away from water, we placed a feeding tube and EmerAid Intensive Care Carnivore was the chosen nutrition supplement until the turtle was able to eat on its own.

After spending almost five months in care, the turtle was released back into the wild.
