Barred Owl Hit By Truck Gets Second Chance

barred own held in handsThe following story was shared with us by The Avian Conservation Center in South Carolina.

This adult barred owl was admitted to care at the Avian Conservation Center’s Medical Clinic in October of 2019. The owl had been hit by a truck and admitted with severe head trauma and some damage to one eye.

The owl was dehydrated and in a weakened state for the first few days it was in our care. We were able to provide supportive care for this owl by administering fluids (both orally and subcutaneously) and by using EmerAid Intensive Care Carnivore.

As the head trauma abated, we were able to switch the owl onto solid food. After building up some strength it was able to be released!
