Virginia Opossum Injured By Dog

injured Virginia opossum eats EmerAid from syringeThe following story about a Virginia opossum was shared with us by Napa Wildlife Rescue in California.

This Virginia opossum had an awful run-in with a dog. He sustained deep wounds to his head and neck, lost a couple of fingers, and was battered and bruised all over.

We honestly weren’t sure if he could make it, but our veterinarian did surgery to close the wounds. Then began his long recovery.

To get him going, we started with EmerAid IC Carnivore, which he licked out of a syringe. He progressed to feeding himself out of a dish, then slowly transitioned to solid foods.

After several months in care, he was finally releasable! His fur grew back over his head wounds, and he regained weight.

He was released near to home in a safer location.
