Red-Tailed Hawk With Fractured Wing

On October 1, a member of the public was taking photos down at a train yard and observed a red-tailed hawk that was sitting on a fence post. The man noticed that the hawk seemed unwell. When he approached it, the hawk fell off of the post. Luckily, the man knew the hawk needed assistance and immediately transported it to our wildlife center.

The hawk was found to have a fracture of the radius of his left wing, along with other old minor injuries and moderate emaciation/dehydration. Along with various medications and a wing wrap for his fracture, he was prescribed EmerAid IC Carnivore via gavage for the first two days in care to stabilize him. Luckily, he was able to begin to recover and start eating on his own within a few days.

Because his wing fracture will take a few weeks to heal, we expect this hawk to remain at the center for at least another month so that he can fully regain his strength and mobility. We are hopeful that he will get to fly free again.
