Orphaned And Injured Southern Hedgehogs

The past few weeks have seen 10 Southern African hedgehogs (Atelerix frontalis) come through our doors! All for different reasons. Six were orphaned after the mother hedgehog was severely injured by a dog, while the rest involved less harsh dog encounters or surviving pool experiences.

With the assistance of core team member, Ashleigh P., each one was meticulously cared for.

Some of the weaker ones who were not eating were syringe-fed EmerAid IC Carnivore until they were strong enough to eat on their own once more.

As and when they were ready, each has been released into a safe environment.
